New on OTT This Weekend: Akka, Meethe Mein Kya Hai, Dhindora and the Ones I'm Actually Excited For
Okay, confession first. I opened Netflix on Sunday night, scrolled for twenty-five minutes, watched nothing, and went to bed feeling like I'd lost an argument with my own TV.
This week, that is not going to happen. Because this week the slate is actually stacked, and I have done the scrolling for you.
Here's everything landing between 26 October and 1 November, ranked by one very scientific metric: how loudly I'll be texting my friends about it.
The one I've cleared my Friday for
Akka (Netflix, 30 October)
Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte as rivals fighting over a crime empire run by women. Set in a fictional South Indian town in 1985. Tanvi Azmi in the cast too. I don't need anything else. That is the pitch, that is the poster, that is my whole weekend.
What gets me is the idea itself. We have had a hundred gangster stories where the women are wives, widows or collateral. A period crime saga where the women are the empire, and the threat is internal? That's the kind of swing I want Indian streaming to take more often.
If it's half as good as the premise, it's the show of the month.
The ones I'm watching with family (and probably fighting about)
Meethe Mein Kya Hai (Netflix, 30 October)
A Diwali family drama-comedy where an extended family gets together and, naturally, every old grudge comes out with the mithai. Ritwik Bhowmik, Rohini Hattangadi and Ayesha Raza lead it. Ritwik has quietly become one of those actors I'll watch in anything. And the timing is perfect. If your own family WhatsApp group is already heating up before the festive season, this one will feel uncomfortably familiar.
Dhindora (Netflix, 28 October)
Bhuvan Bam's lottery comedy, where a middle-class family's life goes sideways after a big win, first came out on the BB Ki Vines YouTube channel in 2021. Now it's on Netflix.
I love this for a reason beyond the show. A YouTube creator's original series moving to the biggest streamer in the country is exactly where the creator economy has been heading. If you've followed Titu Mama and the rest of Bhuvan's characters for years, this is a victory lap.
The midnight horror shelf
This week has a weirdly good run of horror, so if you're the person who watches scary things alone with the lights off (why), here's your list:
Immortal (SonyLIV, 30 October): a Tamil horror thriller about a vampire-like creature said to be around 1,000 years old.

Obsession (JioHotstar, 30 October): a young man uses a mystical object to make his crush fall for him. It goes exactly as badly as you'd hope.
Balaraw (Netflix, 29 October): a Filipino horror mystery about a woman searching for her missing mother on a strange island.
Apocalypse Z: New World (Prime Video, 30 October): Spanish survival horror with a rabies-like outbreak turning people into predators.
My pick of the four? Obsession, purely because the premise is a horror film and a relationship red flag at the same time.
For the "something different" mood
The One About Matthew Perry (Netflix, 27 October): a documentary looking beyond Chandler at the actor's life and career. Keep tissues nearby.
A Couple of Lies (Netflix, 30 October): a four-part Swedish psychological thriller about two couples who swap homes. Emma Appleton and Fares Fares star.
Collision Course (Netflix, 30 October): a Spanish bank-robbery thriller where the getaway ends in a crash. Laia Costa and Luis Zahera lead.
How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents (Netflix, 30 October): the South African comedy franchise back with a Diwali family gathering gone wrong.
Avarachan & Sons (Netflix, 30 October): a Malayalam family comedy about a useless father and his fed-up sons.
Sub-Inspector Yugandhar (Netflix, 30 October): a Telugu cop-versus-serial-killer thriller.
Sample it, don't commit
A few more titles are on the calendar: Hostel Hadsaa on ZEE5 (28 October), Tellakagitham on ETV Win (29 October), Love Always and Karwa Chauth: 7 Janmon Ka Utsav on JioHotstar, and season 2 of LOL: Last One Laughing Philippines on Prime Video. Watch a trailer, decide in thirty seconds, move on.
My weekend, sorted
Friday night: Akka. No negotiations.
Saturday with family: Meethe Mein Kya Hai, followed by a heated debate over who in our family is which character.
Sunday, lights off: Obsession.
And if you only have one evening? Akka. I'll say it again next week if I'm right, and quietly delete this paragraph if I'm wrong.
If you're still deciding whether to restart an old comfort show instead, we've also got the latest on Nobody Wants This season 4.
Release dates are as listed by the platforms and trade schedules at the time of writing. They can shift, so check the app before you make popcorn.
