Koffee With Karan Is Back, and How: Everything Janhvi Kapoor Said in the Most Honest Episode of Season 9
I'll say it. I was ready to write Koffee With Karan off.
The last few seasons felt like a PR exercise wearing a nice blazer. Everyone was careful. Everyone had a publicist standing just outside the frame. And then Season 9 rolled around, Karan Johar announced it would be the final season, and somehow, maybe because there's nothing left to protect, the couch got honest again.

Episode 3, with Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, is the proof. And Janhvi, in particular, came to talk.
First, the context
Season 9 premiered on 14 October 2026 on JioHotstar, and Karan has said it's the last one. Ending the show, he said, was emotional and personal.
Episode 1: Salman Khan, solo.
Episode 2: Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, which we've already unpacked in our piece on the pair.
Episode 3: Janhvi and Varun, the Bawaal co-stars, released on 28 October at 7pm. Arjun Kapoor also drops in for a surprise cameo.
Not everyone is sold on the season. Some viewers feel the games have gone stale and the show has lost its old charm. Fair. But episode 3 reminded me why we tuned in to begin with: people saying things they really shouldn't, over coffee.
Janhvi on Shikhar: "yes, I am"
The big one. When Karan asked whether she was officially dating Shikhar Pahariya, she didn't dodge. She said yes.
Her reasoning was refreshingly unbothered. She said she'd assumed people cared far more about her love life than they actually do, and that hiding a relationship forever is overrated. In her words, it's "boring to tiptoe around it."
Then came the moment that made the internet melt. Asked whether she always knew he was "the one", she told a story she said she only learnt years later. When her mother Sridevi died, Shikhar, who was studying in London at the time, took around half a semester off, flew to Mumbai and stayed at a friend's place in Juhu for about a month. Just to be nearby in case she needed him.
That's not a celebrity soundbite. That's a love story.
Want to know more about the man himself? We've put together everything you need to know about Shikhar Pahariya.
And marriage?
Karan obviously asked. Janhvi's answer: "Not for another two-three years for sure." So, no wedding invites just yet. Bookmark it for 2028.
Janhvi on Peddi: no excuses
This was the part I didn't expect, and the part I respect most.
Karan brought up the backlash over her portrayal in Peddi, the Ram Charan film that drew heavy criticism in June for objectifying her character. Janhvi didn't deflect. She said she should have been more vigilant, that she should have used her privilege to push back harder, and that the negative impact of that portrayal on women weighs on her conscience.
She also explained how things often work on such sets, from scripts that aren't fully locked to camera angles not shared in advance, while making it clear she didn't want to sound like she was shifting blame. We've broken down the full Peddi controversy and exactly what she said.
Honestly? That's the kind of accountability we rarely hear from stars on a chat show.
The rapid-fire dig nobody saw coming
Of course, it's still Koffee With Karan. In the rapid-fire round, Karan asked Janhvi for dating advice for various people. When he got to Veer Pahariya, Shikhar's brother, she shot back with a line aimed squarely at his former partner Tara Sutaria: "Never take her to a concert."
Cue the screenshots. Classic Koffee.
What about Varun?
Varun was in a more careful mood. He and Karan revisited an old tiff over clashing release dates, with Varun eventually moving his film to settle it. He didn't win the rapid fire, and Karan teased him for holding back. Varun's line on that pretty much summed up his approach: the less you give out to the world, the better.
The contrast worked. Varun managed the room. Janhvi opened it up.
So, is Koffee With Karan really back?
For me, yes, at least for this one. The best Koffee episodes were never about the games or the hamper. They were about a star forgetting, for a second, that the cameras were rolling. Janhvi gave us that, and more: a love story, a marriage timeline, an apology without excuses and a perfectly placed dig.
If this is how the show goes out, it's going out loud. Which episode are you waiting for next?
