Okay, quick reality check before the Netflix countdown starts: there is no official Netflix date yet. Anyone giving you an exact day is guessing. But we can guess well.

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, the Barbarian and Weapons guy, hit cinemas on 18 September 2026. In India, Sony released it the same day in four languages.

So when does it hit Netflix?
Netflix has a long-running deal with Sony that gives it the first streaming window for Sony's cinema releases in the US and some other markets. Sony usually waits around 120 days after a theatrical release.
Do that maths from 18 September and you land around mid-January 2027 in the US. If the film keeps doing well and Sony stretches the window, mid-February is possible.
For India, early 2027 is the expected window too. Again: estimated, not confirmed.
Can you watch it sooner?
Possibly. A digital rental and purchase release was reported for 3 November. Sony hadn't officially confirmed it, so check your usual rental store before you buy popcorn.
Wait, what's it even about?
Forget Milla Jovovich. This is a fresh start, and not a straight adaptation of any one game. Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier rushing a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital in snowy Colorado. On the way he hits a woman on the road, and things go very, very wrong. Cue an Umbrella lab accident, a zombie outbreak and a very bad night.
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry and Kali Reis. And it runs a tight 94 minutes. No bloated three-hour universe-building. Just panic.
My take
Honestly? If it is still playing on a big screen anywhere near you, go. A horror film this well reviewed lives on the crowd: the screaming, the nervous laughing, the guy behind you yelling "DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR." Streaming it alone on your phone at 1am is a different, sadder experience.
If not, the digital rental is the next best thing. And if you're the 1am-on-your-phone type (no judgement), January isn't that far away.
