OM Audio Launch Recap: Dhanush's Apology, Mammootty's Tamil Comeback and Everything That Happened
What a night. And what a mess. And then what a moment.
The audio launch of OM: Chapter 1, Udhiram: The Blood Wood took place on 6 November at Sairam Engineering College in Chennai, and honestly, it had everything: a massive crowd, a controversy, a superstar's apology, a legend's comeback and Sai Pallavi being reminded of "Rowdy Baby" for the thousandth time.
Here's the full recap.

First, the chaos outside
Let's start with the part nobody wanted. Thousands of fans showed up, and reportedly the auditorium filled before many ticket holders could even enter. Fans with valid passes were turned away. Videos from outside the venue spread quickly online.
And then Dhanush did something stars rarely do.
Dhanush's apology
He posted on social media and took the blame himself:
"It pains me deeply that thousands of fans who had tickets in hand were unable to get in and had to turn back."
He said he didn't want to point fingers about whose fault it was, that he took full responsibility, and that it would not happen again.
That's how you do it. No excuses. Just ownership.
Dhanush's speech: rumours, heroes and a request
Inside, Dhanush's speech was classic Dhanush.
On the rumours: without naming anyone, he hit back at talk that others were controlling his decisions. His answer: God, his fans and the people are the ones behind him.
On being underestimated: he said constant underestimation drives him, and winning despite it gives him special satisfaction. The underdog energy, at this stage of his career, is unreal.
On the film: he called OM a "multi-hero" film rather than a multi-starrer, naming Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and composer Sai Abhyankkar as its other heroes.
The funniest bit: he recorded "Alaakaa Loova", found the pitch too high, and the composer ended up preferring his own version. Dhanush's recording got dropped, and he joked it's the only song of his that ever got cut.
His request: he asked fans to keep up their welfare work without neglecting their families, and to help people in need if heavy rains hit this November and December. Then he asked everyone to get home safely.
Mammootty is back in Tamil cinema
This was huge. Mammootty said OM marks his return to Tamil cinema after seven years, since Peranbu. He also revealed that a 45-day shoot stretched to about six months.
Dhanush said that when they started, he found Mammootty reserved, but working together revealed a sweeter, more loving and seriously funny side.
Sai Pallavi: still "Rowdy Baby Akka"
Sai Pallavi, here fresh off Ramayana, had the sweetest line of the night:
"Ippo varaikkum when I see kids, they call me Rowdy Baby Akka."
She plays a police officer in OM and thanked the director for believing in her. And about Mammootty: "Mammootty sir is above 70 but I've not seen such an energetic actor on the sets."
Everyone else
Director Rajkumar Periasamy revealed that Dhanush saved the film by stepping in to produce it when it nearly stalled.
Producer Sreyas called it a vintage mass commercial entertainer on a ₹200 crore budget.
Sreeleela said she was happy to work with Dhanush and Mammootty.
Sai Abhyankkar confirmed the album has 18 tracks.
When does OM release?
OM: Chapter 1 releases worldwide on 20 November 2026, in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Netflix has the streaming rights for after the theatrical run.
My take
The launch was messy, but the response was class. A star apologising to fans, a 70-plus legend outworking everyone and a director saying the lead actor saved the film? That's the kind of story that makes you want to be there on day one.
