Jailer 2 Advance Booking: The ₹46 Crore Number That Decides Day 1

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opens in cinemas worldwide on Thursday, 15 October, and the pre-sales already tell you it will open big. What they do not tell you yet is whether it will open bigger than Coolie. That is the only comparison the trade is really watching.
By Monday morning, 12 October, the sequel had sold roughly 5.07 lakh Day 1 tickets in India across 4,907 shows, worth about ₹11.05 crore gross including block seats. Worldwide, opening-day pre-sales had already crossed ₹20 crore by the morning of 11 October, and most of that money came from outside India.

The three numbers that matter
Film | Day 1 advance booking, India gross (incl. block seats) |
|---|---|
Jailer 2 (as of 12 Oct, three days out) | ₹11.05 crore |
Jailer (2023, final) | ₹18.24 crore |
Coolie (final, Rajinikanth's record) | ₹46.36 crore (₹37.20 crore without blocks) |
Read that table slowly. Jailer 2 was about ₹7.19 crore behind the first film with three days still to go, and the last 48 hours are where Rajinikanth releases do their heaviest selling. Clearing Jailer's number looks likely. Clearing Coolie's would need the India pre-sales to roughly quadruple in the final stretch. Possible, but that is a different scale of frenzy.
Why overseas is carrying the early money
Overseas pre-sales crossed the $1 million mark as early as 8 October, with the USA leading, followed by the UAE, the UK and Australia. By 11 October, overseas accounted for more than ₹17 crore of the worldwide Day 1 figure, while India sat at roughly ₹3.5 to ₹4 crore at that point because bookings had not fully opened everywhere.
Inside India, Tamil Nadu is doing almost all of the lifting: close to 90 percent of domestic pre-sales in the first phase, with Chennai alone past ₹1.6 crore early on. Kerala opened bookings at 10am on 11 October and has 6am shows lined up for release day. That is a market being worked hard on the strength of Mohanlal returning to the franchise.
What the Madras High Court order actually covers
On Tuesday, 13 October, Justice P B Balaji of the Madras High Court granted Sun TV Network an interim injunction against unauthorised online copying and streaming of Jailer 2. It is a John Doe order, known in Indian courts as an Ashok Kumar order, which lets a studio act against infringers whose identities it does not yet know.
It bars websites and digital platforms from showing the film without the producer's permission, in Tamil and in every language it is dubbed or released in.
Internet service providers must block piracy sites identified by Sun TV or its agents, including mirror, redirect and alphanumeric versions of those addresses.
The court told its registry to issue a web copy of the order the same day, so the studio could alert service providers before Thursday.
A similar order was passed the same day for Bail, the Shivarajkumar-led Kannada film produced by KVN Productions.
The producer's counsel told the court that pirated copies now surface online within about 30 minutes of a worldwide release, which is why the order was fast-tracked. Sun Pictures has history here: a clip from the Jailer 2 sets leaked earlier this year, and its anti-piracy team had to chase it off social media.
Our read
Jailer 2 does not need to beat Coolie to be a hit. The first Jailer went on to earn over ₹600 crore worldwide, and the sequel has the Dussehra holiday corridor behind it. But Thursday will be framed as Jailer 2 against Coolie whether that is fair or not, and on current numbers the gap will be far smaller overseas than at home.
One more variable: Drishyam The Conclusion is still holding screens into its third week, which squeezes the Hindi version of Jailer 2 far more than the Tamil original.

Questions readers are asking
When does Jailer 2 release?
Thursday, 15 October 2026, in cinemas worldwide. In parts of Kerala, the first shows start at 6am.
Is Jailer 2 available on OTT?
No. No streaming date has been announced, and the Madras High Court has barred unauthorised online streaming of the film.
How much has Jailer 2 made in advance booking?
About ₹11.05 crore gross in India for Day 1 as of 12 October, and over ₹20 crore worldwide as of 11 October. Both figures typically climb sharply in the last two days before release.
Can Jailer 2 beat Coolie's opening?
On pre-sales, it would need to roughly quadruple its 12 October India figure to pass Coolie's ₹46.36 crore. Beating the first Jailer's ₹18.24 crore is the more realistic target.
How we reported this: advance figures are trade-tracker estimates captured on 11 and 12 October 2026, and court details come from the order passed on 13 October. Pre-sales change by the hour, so read this as a snapshot, not a final count.
