Connor Storrie vs Ryan Gosling? The Heated Rivalry Star Is in Talks to Play the Villain in Marvel's Ghost Rider

Okay. Breathe.

Ryan Gosling is Ghost Rider. That already happened at Comic-Con in July and I still haven't fully recovered. And now, the man who turned a hockey romance into the most-discussed show on my timeline, Connor Storrie, is reportedly in talks to be the villain opposite him.

Gosling with a flaming skull versus Storrie with a smirk? Marvel, you have my attention.

What we actually know

Let's separate the facts from my excitement:

  • Connor Storrie, the breakout star of Heated Rivalry, is in talks to play the villain in Marvel's Ghost Rider. The exact character hasn't been revealed.

  • Ryan Gosling leads the film. He's expected to play Johnny Blaze, the stunt rider who makes a deal with a demon and becomes the Spirit of Vengeance.

  • Shawn Levy is directing, reuniting with Gosling after Star Wars: Starfighter.

  • Jonathan Tropper is writing.

  • Linus Sandgren, cinematographer on Dune: Part Three, is on board, reportedly shooting on film.

  • Filming: in New York next year.

  • Release: tentatively 28 July 2028.

And the important caveat. Marvel doesn't comment on casting, so until there's an official announcement, "in talks" is exactly that. Talks.

Why Storrie makes sense

If you haven't watched Heated Rivalry, what are you doing? Storrie's performance did the thing very few breakout roles manage. It made people feel like they'd discovered him first. Intensity, charm and the ability to say a lot with a look.

That's villain material. The best Marvel antagonists aren't the ones who shout the loudest. They're the ones you secretly understand a little bit. Think Loki. Think Killmonger. A good villain needs to be magnetic, and Storrie has magnetism in bulk.

Also, casting a rising star opposite an established one is classic Marvel. It creates a story outside the film itself. Gosling the veteran, Storrie the newcomer, with a fun Canadian connection (Gosling is Canadian, and Heated Rivalry is a Canadian series). The press tour writes itself.

A darker Ghost Rider

This isn't a sequel to the Nicolas Cage films, and it's not connected to the Robbie Reyes version from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. either. When the film was announced, Marvel described it as a complete reboot with a darker, more psychological take inspired by the comics.

Dark. Psychological. Shot on film. Directed by the man who made Deadpool & Wolverine. Honestly, this sounds less like a typical superhero film and more like a mood.

Why we care in India

Ghost Rider has a weirdly strong desi fandom. A whole generation grew up watching the Cage films on cable on loop, and that flaming bike has stayed a favourite with comic-con cosplayers ever since.

Add Gosling, whose fanbase in India is enormous (Ken energy never left), and a hot new villain, and this could be one of Marvel's bigger plays here in 2028. Especially as Bollywood starts building its own universes. We've already talked about Ramayana's cinematic universe ambitions and the Avengers: Doomsday clash with SRK's King. The superhero calendar is only getting more crowded.

So what happens next?

Watch for three things:

1. An official announcement from Marvel confirming Storrie, and maybe naming his character.

2. More casting as production nears in New York.

3. First-look images once cameras roll next year.

Until then, I'll be over here manifesting a scene where Storrie delivers one devastating line and Gosling's skull just quietly catches fire.

Spirit of Vengeance versus Spirit of Heated Rivalry. 2028 can't come soon enough.
