Avid Learning in November: Satish Gujral at 100, Immersive Art, Murals and a Theatre Workshop
Satish Gujral was born in 1925 and spent the next nine decades refusing to stay in one medium. Painter, sculptor, muralist, architect: the categories never quite held him. It is fitting, then, that a month built around his centenary should wander as widely as he did.
Avid Learning, the Essar initiative that has become one of Mumbai's steadier sources of public talks, has published its November programme. Here it is, date by date.

Saturday, 14 November: two panels at Art Mumbai
Avid opens at Art Mumbai 2026 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
1:30pm, Satish Gujral: The Modernist and His Many Worlds. A discussion of Gujral's multidisciplinary legacy.
4:30pm, Enter the Art: How Immersive Tech Is Redrawing the Gallery Walls. Art Mumbai lists Alap Parikh and Sonia Parekh as panellists.
Art Mumbai itself runs from 12 to 15 November, with public tickets on District starting at ₹649.
Thursday, 19 November, 5pm: Satish Gujral at 100
The centenary moves to Sir J. J. School of Art, Architecture and Design, for a conversation subtitled "Celebrating a Multidisciplinary Legacy," on Gujral's journey across painting, sculpture, murals and architecture.
Tuesday, 24 November, 6pm: Double Take
The fourth episode of Avid's Double Take series is titled "Public Art as a Living Archive," and asks how murals and public art preserve cultural histories and connect Mumbai's past with its present.
28 November, 10:30am: Adapting Stories for the Stage
A hands-on theatre workshop with Benjamin Poore, on how literary classics and stories can be adapted for performance. (The poster lists the date as a Thursday; 28 November 2026 falls on a Saturday, so confirm with Avid before planning around it.)

A note on the shape
What interests me is the arc. The month begins at an art fair, where works are bought, and ends in a workshop, where stories are made. Between them sit a centenary and a city's walls. It is a quiet argument that culture is not only what hangs in a booth, but what survives on the street and gets retold on a stage.
