You'd think a film that had to go through the Bombay High Court to make its release date would at least get a curiosity bump. Tu Hai Meri Kiran didn't.

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal's romantic thriller opened on Friday, 23 October, and made an estimated ₹34 lakh net in India over its first three days. Not ₹34 crore. Lakh.

The numbers

  • Day 1 (Friday): ₹14 lakh

  • Day 2 (Saturday): ₹10 lakh

  • Day 3 (Sunday): ₹10 lakh

On Sunday it played 1,578 shows at about 5.5% occupancy, which works out to roughly one person in every 18 seats. Maharashtra was its biggest state, at about ₹4.5 lakh on the day.

The week before release

The film nearly didn't come out at all. On 19 October, the Bombay High Court ruled that producer Echelon Productions could not release the film until it deposited ₹8.85 crore, plus 15% interest, as security for co-producer AND Movie Products LLP.

AND Movie said it had put that money in under a co-production agreement signed in March 2024, and that it hadn't been refunded despite the deadline passing and a cheque bouncing. The court gave Echelon three working days to deposit the amount, and also ordered disclosure of the film's commercial agreements and the restoration of producer credits.

A day before release, the producers said the dispute had been resolved, and the film kept its 23 October date. The fine print of that settlement hasn't been made public.

Why it didn't land

Days spent on a legal fight in release week are days not spent selling the film, and it opened into a crowded market. For a sense of scale: the Hindi dub of Jailer 2, in its second week, made about ₹3.15 crore on the same Sunday. That's more than 30 times what Tu Hai Meri Kiran managed.

It's also a hard sell on paper. Directed by Karan Rawal, it's a twisty time-crossing thriller: Kiran, a writer in 2026, finds an old phone that connects her to Samar, a man living in 2016, who starts using her knowledge of the future to his advantage and becomes controlling. Without a strong opening, that kind of film needs word of mouth to build, and three flat days suggest it isn't coming.

For Sonakshi and Zaheer, who married in 2024, this is their first film together. That gave it plenty of attention online, but not many ticket sales.

The likely next stop is streaming. No OTT platform or date has been announced.

Figures are trade-tracked estimates as of 26 October 2026.
