Ten days ago, the question about Jailer 2 was whether it could beat Coolie's opening. It didn't. It's now beaten something much bigger.

By trade tracker counts, Rajinikanth's sequel reached ₹710.35 crore gross worldwide on Sunday, 25 October, its 11th day in cinemas. That takes it past the roughly ₹691 crore lifetime figure for 2.0 and makes it the highest-grossing Tamil film on record. Sun Pictures hasn't published official numbers, so treat these as the best available count.

The second weekend

After a ₹334.35 crore net first week in India, the film did something sequels often don't. It grew through its second weekend.

  • Day 9 (Friday): ₹14.50 crore net, 26.7% occupancy

  • Day 10 (Saturday): ₹24.15 crore net, 35.8% occupancy

  • Day 11 (Sunday): ₹25.70 crore net, 38% occupancy

That's ₹64.35 crore across three days, and Sunday was up about 6% on Saturday. India net now stands at ₹398.70 crore, about ₹1.3 crore short of ₹400 crore, a gap Monday's collections should close.

The Hindi story flipped

When we broke down Jailer 2's opening day, the problem was obvious: the Hindi version made ₹3.50 crore from 4,371 shows, with four out of five seats empty.

On its second Sunday, the Hindi version made ₹3.15 crore from 4,195 shows, at about 20% occupancy. That's nearly what it did on day one. Opening days are supposed to be the high point for dubbed releases. A second Sunday that almost matches one suggests word of mouth has been doing the work that a weak opening couldn't.

Tamil is still the engine, of course. It brought in ₹17.35 crore on Sunday from 5,683 shows at about 50% occupancy, roughly two-thirds of the day's India total. Telugu added ₹4.50 crore and Kannada ₹70 lakh.

Home is catching up with overseas

On Day 1, overseas markets brought in about 44% of the worldwide gross. After 11 days, overseas is ₹243.50 crore of the ₹710.35 crore, closer to a third. The diaspora showed up first; India has kept coming back.

Trackers put cumulative footfalls at more than 2.6 crore tickets.

What next

The film still has the ₹400 crore net milestone to cross, and a third weekend to test how long the run lasts. There's no streaming date yet. The film's record ₹160 crore OTT deal means that whenever it lands, it will be a big streaming event, but the theatres aren't done with it.

Figures are trade-tracked estimates as of the morning of 26 October 2026 and may be revised.
