Scene Trailer: Suriya Quits the Force, Gets Dragged Back, and Jithu Madhavan Is Clearly Having Fun
Suriya being lazy, sarcastic and carried to work like a sack of rice by his own colleagues was not on my 2026 bingo card. And yet.

The Scene trailer dropped on 31 October at the film's audio and trailer launch, and it's the most fun Suriya has looked in a while. Here's everything we know.
1. The basics
Director: Jithu Madhavan, the man behind Romancham and Aavesham. This is his Tamil debut
Cast: Suriya, Naslen, Nazriya Nazim, Lal, Anandaraj, Raj Priyan and John Vijay
Producers: Suriya and Jyotika's Zhagaram Studios, with 2D Entertainment
Music: Sushin Shyam, also making his Tamil debut
Release: 6 November, worldwide, for Diwali. Certified U/A
Working title, if you've been following: Suriya 47
2. Suriya is DSP Inbaraj, and he's quit
Inbaraj has resigned from the police. He wants to go into politics. But his senior, Stephen (played by Lal), pulls him back in to investigate a murder.
The opening of the trailer is pure comedy. He refuses to report to work, cops come to his house, and he makes them carry him to the station, arms and legs up. That is the energy of a man who has absolutely no intention of being a hero, which makes the eventual hero moments hit harder.
The earlier "Glimpse of DSP Inbaraj" video set this up nicely too: a cop telling a crowd to keep "one-arm distance", then asking them to shoot their reels vertically. A smoker lecturing others about smoking. This is not your Singam-style roaring policeman.
3. Naslen is the villain, and he's terrifying
This is the casting I'm most excited about. Naslen, the sweetheart of Malayalam youth comedies, plays Eeswaran, introduced as a "faceless, emotionless, inhuman predator."
The trailer frames him as Inbaraj's intellectual equal, a proper cat-and-mouse setup. There's a line where Inbaraj asks him, "Am I your equal?" Chills.
4. Nazriya's Maya is a mystery
Nazriya Nazim plays Maya, who first shows up as a house help answering an ad Inbaraj placed. Then she starts fighting several people at once. So, clearly, not just house help. Who is she working for? The trailer won't say, and I love that.
5. The Singam callback
The trailer ends with a nod to Durai Singam, one of Suriya's most famous characters, through one of that character's well-known lines. It's a wink at fans, and given how un-Singam Inbaraj is, it feels like Jithu Madhavan having a laugh with his own star.
6. The numbers
Scene is reportedly a lean production by star-vehicle standards, with reported costs of roughly ₹22 crore to ₹30 crore excluding Suriya's fee. Netflix has reportedly picked up the post-theatrical streaming rights. Suriya's other two 2026 releases, Karuppu and Vishwanath and Sons, have reportedly grossed around ₹513 crore worldwide together, so expectations are high.
7. The Diwali clash
Scene lands the same week as Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, which is a big swing for a Tamil action comedy. Different audiences, sure, but screens are screens. Catch up on how early reactions to Ramayana are shaping up if you're picking your Diwali watch.
So, is it worth getting excited?
If you liked Aavesham's chaos, yes. Jithu Madhavan's whole thing is taking a genre everyone knows and making it weird, funny and a little unhinged. Giving him Suriya, Naslen and Sushin Shyam is a very good bet.
My only question: does the comedy survive once the murder plot gets serious? We find out on 6 November.
