Raveena Tandon Campaigns for Akshata Menezes in Bandra West BMC Elections

Mumbai, January 12, 2026: Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon campaigned on January 11 and 12 in support of Akshata Menezes, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) candidate contesting from Ward No. 101 in Bandra West, as campaigning intensified ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.

Tandon joined a door to door outreach and roadshow organised by the Shiv Sena UBT and its alliance partners, covering areas from Chimbai to Kantwadi. Wearing a traditional kurta and the party’s red campaign stole bearing the Mashal symbol, the actor walked through residential lanes, interacting with residents and party workers. Her presence drew large crowds, with locals gathering along the route to witness the campaign.

The roadshow and padayatra formed part of the Thackeray alliance’s broader effort to mobilise voters in the ward. Party workers said the turnout during the campaign was significantly higher than usual, with increased public engagement throughout the route.

Speaking to the media during the campaign, Tandon said she was supporting efforts aimed at preserving Maharashtra’s cultural identity and acknowledged the work carried out during periods of civic crisis. She described cultural preservation and responsible governance as important civic responsibilities.

Akshata Menezes, a lawyer and social activist, is contesting the election as the official candidate of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) in alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction). Menezes has highlighted local civic issues, environmental concerns, and neighbourhood infrastructure as key priorities for Ward 101.

The 2026 BMC elections are being closely watched, with major alliances competing for control of the country’s richest municipal body. The ruling Mahayuti alliance includes the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena Shinde faction, while the opposition Thackeray alliance has fielded candidates across Mumbai.

In Ward No. 101, Menezes is facing a three cornered contest against Anushree Ghodke of the BJP and Karen Demello of the Indian National Congress.

Videos and photographs from Tandon’s campaign activities circulated widely on social media platforms over the weekend, drawing attention to the local contest. While the actor has not indicated any plans to enter electoral politics, her participation underscored the growing role of public figures in local civic campaigns.

The campaign event added visibility to the Bandra West contest, as candidates make final efforts to reach voters ahead of polling.
