MC Stan on India's Got Latent Was the Only Reason to Watch Episode 8
I watched the new India's Got Latent episode so you don't have to. Honest verdict: it's okay. At best.

Episode 8 of season 2 dropped late on Sunday night, 25 October, on Samay Raina's YouTube channel, after a gap of about a month and a few hours before Samay's own birthday. The panel looked stacked on paper: MC Stan, Tanmay Bhat, Madhur Virli and Arpit Bala. Going in, I thought this one would be a banger.
It wasn't. But it had MC Stan, and that's almost enough.
The panel that didn't show up
Let me get the harsh bit out of the way. Tanmay, Madhur and Arpit didn't add much. They were there, they laughed, they scored, and I can't remember a single thing any of them said that I'd clip and send to a friend.
Now, a fair caveat. What we see on YouTube is an edit. A live taping runs much longer than the episode, and it's entirely possible all three were funnier in the room and it just didn't make the cut. But we can only judge what we're shown, and what we were shown was mostly Stan, plus some people sitting next to Stan.
Stan, being Stan
MC Stan on a comedy panel is a strange idea that somehow works. He isn't trying to be funny. He mumbles, he looks completely unbothered, he seems to be half in a different conversation. And that's exactly why it lands. You can't predict what he'll say, so every time he opens his mouth, the whole room leans in.
The moment everyone's already clipping: mid-show, Stan pulls out a cigarette and gets ready to light it. Samay catches him and goes, roughly, "Sutta leke aaya hai? Tapri pe baithe ho kya?" It's the funniest exchange in the episode, and nobody planned it.
MC Stan isn't trying to be funny. That's exactly why it works.
Then there's his take on Indian female rappers. Without spoiling the whole bit, he wonders out loud why so many of them write like freedom fighters, all revolution and resistance. Coming from MC Stan, of all people, a man whose entire catalogue is about the struggle, it's hilarious. The internet is split on whether it was a dig or just Stan being Stan. I watched it as the second.
He also handed a zero to a contestant who hinted on stage that he'd cheated on his wife. Samay went further and gave him minus 10. Honestly, fair.
The real winner
Credit where it's due: the episode belongs to a contestant. Raahil, who performs as a Narendra Modi lookalike under the name "Odi Ji", got a perfect 10, matching the score he predicted. The bit where Samay video-calls Kunal Kamra and Raahil, fully in character, turns the roast back on him is the other thing everyone is sharing today.
So is it worth watching?
If you're a Latent regular, yes, for Stan and the Raahil set. If you're waiting for the show to feel like season 1 again, this isn't that episode. Season 2 has had its moments, like the veteran who saved episode 2 and the chaos of episode 5, but it keeps struggling to make a great panel feel like a great episode.
MC Stan should come back. Next time, just give him a better table.
