Jennifer Lawrence Is Launching a Hair Care Brand, and It's Not Your Usual Celebrity Beauty Line
Every time a celebrity launches a beauty brand, a part of the internet sighs. I get it. We've had so many. So when Jennifer Lawrence quietly dropped a link under her Instagram handle to something called mes°, the reaction was exactly what you'd expect. "Another one?" Some people were openly disappointed.

And then you read the fine print, and it gets a lot more interesting.
What mes° actually is
mes° calls itself "biodesigned hair care", and it's been developed by Lawrence together with Arcaea, a biotech beauty company. Arcaea was founded by MIT graduate Jasmina Aganovic, and it has raised $78 million in Series A funding from investors including Chanel, Givaudan (one of the world's biggest fragrance and ingredients companies) and Olaplex (yes, that Olaplex, the hair repair one).
The brand launches on 27 October through its own website. As of now, the actual products, prices and where you'll be able to buy them haven't been announced.
And the launch message was pure J-Law. Her line: "So yeah, I'm giving it a shot and if anyone says anything negative I'll quit immediately."
Most celebrity beauty brands start with a face. This one starts with a lab.
Why this one feels different
Here's my take. The celebrity beauty market has a formula: famous face, nice packaging, a fragrance or a lip shade, a big launch, a slow fade. A handful break out properly, think Rihanna's Fenty Beauty or Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty. Most don't.
mes° is betting on a different story. The lead isn't "Jennifer Lawrence's favourite shampoo". It's the science. Arcaea's whole pitch is using biology to design beauty ingredients. When Chanel and Olaplex both put money into the company making your product, that's a credibility signal no influencer campaign can buy.
It's also a very smart category choice. Hair care is where people actually spend repeatedly. Lipstick is an impulse. Shampoo is a habit. And the "skinification of hair", treating your scalp and strands with the same seriousness as skincare, has been one of the biggest beauty trends of the last few years.
The honest risks
Biodesigned is a lovely word. It also means very little to most shoppers until they see a result. If the products don't feel noticeably better than what's already on the shelf, the science story won't save it. And J-Law has always sold herself as the anti-polished star, the one who trips on the Oscar stairs. That's charming. It's not obviously a beauty brand.
What Indian brands can learn
India is going through its own celebrity beauty wave, from Katrina Kaif's Kay Beauty to Deepika Padukone's 82°E. The ones that last will be the ones that give people a reason to believe beyond the face on the box. Lawrence's move is a reminder: partner with people who actually make the thing, and lead with why it's better, not who it's by.
Will mes° work? We'll know when the products are out. But for once, a celebrity beauty launch has given me something to be curious about, and not just something to scroll past.
