Humare Ram: Ashutosh Rana Redefines Mythological Theatre in a Grand Epic
Humare Ram is a monumental Hindi theatrical production that reimagines Valmiki's epic Ramayana through a modernized, emotionally complex lens. Directed by Gaurav Bhardwaj and produced by Felicity Theatre, the mythological drama premiered in January 2024 and has since completed over 450 shows globally, bridging the gap between ancient storytelling and contemporary stagecraft.

A New Perspective on the Epic
Written by Rahull R Bhuchar and Naresh Katyayan, the play presents selected episodes from the Ramayana, including the sequences involving Lava and Kusha. However, the narrative distinguishes itself by refusing to present its characters as one-dimensional figures:
Rama's Internal Conflict: The play re-examines Lord Rama's choices—particularly his treatment of Sita—highlighting the heavy burden of kingship and the immense personal cost of upholding his Dharma.
The Duality of Ravana: The script delves heavily into Ravana's perspective, portraying him not merely as a demon, but as a brilliant scholar, a devout follower of Lord Shiva, and a powerful ruler ultimately brought down by his own blinding ego.
Cast and Performances
The success of Humare Ram is heavily anchored by its veteran cast, who deliver towering performances across a three-hour runtime.
Ashutosh Rana as Ravana: Rana (who also contributed to the script) commands the stage as the Lankeshwar. His performance is widely praised for its magnetic dialogue delivery, capturing Ravana's duality through deep, poetic cadence and intense physical acting that humanizes the villain's tragic pride.
Rahull R Bhuchar as Rama: Bhuchar, who also serves as the play's producer, brings a deeply nuanced and vulnerable portrayal to Lord Rama.
Supporting Cast: The ensemble features Danish Akhtar as Hanuman, Tarun Khanna as Lord Shiva, and Amrita Parihar as Sita.
The Original Soundtrack
Elevating the production from a standard play to a grand musical spectacle is its exceptional score. Humare Ram features a six-track original soundtrack released by T-Series, composed by Udbhav Ojha and Saurabh Mehta, with lyrics by Ram Kumar Singh and Aalok Shrivastav.
The background score acts as a silent character, with title tracks voiced by some of India's most celebrated singers:
"Humare Ram" – Lead vocals by Shankar Mahadevan
"Ramleela" – Lead vocals by Sonu Nigam
"Dashanan" – Lead vocals by Kailash Kher
Production Scale and Global Reach
Moving away from traditional, static set designs, Humare Ram utilizes large-scale LED visual backdrops and highly choreographed set-pieces to create a cinematic experience on stage.
Since its debut at the Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi, the production has toured extensively. It has been staged at prestigious venues including the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMAAC) in Mumbai, and it successfully made its international debut at the Dubai Opera in August 2025.
