Anupam Kher to Star in Swedish-Belgian Film 'Out of Fashion', Directed by Jens Jonsson
Veteran actor Anupam Kher is heading to Europe for his next role. He has joined the cast of Out of Fashion, a Swedish-Belgian feature film directed by acclaimed Swedish filmmaker Jens Jonsson, and shooting has already begun in Stockholm.
The film stars actor-writer Sunil Munshi in the lead and moves between the fashion world of Paris and a small town in Sweden.

A director's return to film
Out of Fashion marks Jonsson's return to feature filmmaking after seven years working in television. He is best known for The King of Ping Pong, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
The story
Written by Munshi, the film follows Armand Kaiser, a successful fashion designer whose carefully built life starts to come apart when work and family collide.
Armand has made his name in Paris, but his fashion house hands him an ultimatum: deliver an entirely new collection within three weeks, or risk losing his job. At the same time, news from his hometown of Sala, Sweden, forces him to face a personal crisis. His father is living with irreversible dementia, and his sister needs help raising her three children.
As Armand tries to balance it all, his path takes an unexpected turn. He sets out towards the Himalayas to fulfil his father's final wish.
Anupam Kher as the father
Kher plays Armand's father, a role that sits at the emotional heart of the story. It's another international credit for an actor whose global filmography already includes Bend It Like Beckham, Lust, Caution and Silver Linings Playbook, alongside his long career in Indian cinema.
For Munshi, the screenplay draws on his own life, especially his relationship with his father. The film also puts an Indian-origin family at the centre of a Swedish story, bringing questions of identity, belonging and the bond between generations into a European setting.
Cast and production
The supporting cast includes Bahar Pars, Helena Bergström, Krista Kosonen and Astrid Whettnall. The filmmakers have described the ensemble as a coming together of talent from different backgrounds.
The film is produced by Way Feature Films, with Beside Productions, Film i Skåne, Film Stockholm and SVT among its co-production partners. Scanbox Entertainment is handling distribution, and the project has support from the Swedish Film Institute and the Belgian Tax Shelter.
Filming is scheduled in Stockholm, Sala, Brussels and Paris between October and December 2026, with a theatrical release expected in early 2028.
With its mix of workplace pressure, family drama and an international backdrop, Out of Fashion is a story of ambition and personal reckoning, with Kher anchoring it from the centre.
