Based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel of the same name, the upcoming film takes audiences into a world filled with secrets, mystery and psychological tension. The teaser gave fans a glimpse of the film's twisted plot, and now, the trailer sheds more light on the thriller.

Released on 11th August 2026, the trailer wastes little time setting an unsettling tone, cutting between Lowen's growing unease at the Crawford estate and haunting flashbacks of Verity herself, styled with a glamour that only makes her presence feel more menacing. A handful of lines from the footage capture exactly how dark the film is willing to go:

The Story

Adapted from Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel, the psychological thriller narrates the story of the renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghost-write for Verity. Lowen is hired by Verity's husband, Jeremy Crawford, to complete the remaining books in his wife's bestselling series after Verity is left unable to write following a mysterious accident. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity's chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Jeremy, and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.

With its mysterious setting, unsettling revelations and increasingly blurred line between truth and lies, Verity promises a gripping psychological thriller for audiences, set to add a dark tone to this October.

Behind The Camera

Verity is directed by Michael Showalter, working from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. The score comes from composer Volker Bertelmann, while Stacey Sher and Jordana Mollick produce. The film is a joint production between Eat the Cat, Semi-Formal Productions, Shiny Penny, Somewhere Pictures and Heartbones, in association with Amazon MGM Studios.

From Page To A Twisted Screen Story

Colleen Hoover's Verity was first published in 2018 and has remained one of her most talked-about thrillers ever since, part of a body of work that turned Hoover into a genuine box-office force following the 2024 adaptation of It Ends With Us. Development on the film version dates back to before November 2020, passing through several writers before Nick Antosca finalised the screenplay in November 2024, the same month Michael Showalter came on board to direct and Anne Hathaway joined the cast. Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson followed in December 2024, with the rest of the ensemble locking in by February 2025. Principal photography took place in New York City between February and April 2025.

Verity is just the latest stop on an unusually packed year for Anne Hathaway, who has already featured in Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street in 2026 alone, making this one of the busiest release calendars of her career.

Release Details

Verity was originally slated for a 15th May 2026 release before moving to its current date. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International, Verity is slated to release in India on 2nd October 2026, in cinemas only.
