Shora Siddiqui: a theatre debut, not a film launch

Who Shora Siddiqui is
Shora Siddiqui, born 10 December 2009, is 16. She is the daughter of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Aaliya Siddiqui, and has a younger brother, Yaani. She has been training in acting and has not yet appeared in a film.
Her stage debut came this summer in Naqaab, the Hindi comedy-thriller written and directed by Paritosh Painter, which is touring American cities through 2026 and marks her father's first theatre run in roughly 25 years. She shares the stage with him. The tour's opening night in Chicago played to a sold-out house and closed with a standing ovation.
The training came first, and it was theatre training
Before Naqaab, Shora Siddiqui studied at West End Stage in London, attending their Theatre Summer School, where she performed in a production of the musical Beauty and the Beast. That is a stage programme, not a screen-acting workshop, and not a Mumbai one.
Speaking to Hindustan Times about that choice, Nawazuddin Siddiqui framed it in terms of craft rather than launch strategy. His argument was that workshops and institutes teach you things you would not otherwise know, that training at a serious institute can only benefit a career, and that formal instruction compresses years of learning you would otherwise have to accumulate through personal experience.
In July 2025, he posted an audition clip of her on Instagram, in which she performs English dialogue opposite an actor kept out of frame. The caption was a scene direction rather than a promotion. It is worth noting what that clip actually is: an audition tape, which is the ordinary working document of an actor looking for a job, not a launch announcement.
Why a stage debut is the unusual part
Consider how star kid debuts normally work in Hindi cinema. A studio builds a vehicle, a launch date is set, a marketing campaign runs for months, and the first time the public sees the performer is in a finished, edited, colour-graded film where every choice has been protected in post-production.
A touring stage play offers none of that. There is no editing, no coverage to cut to, no second attempt, and the audience response is immediate and audible. For a first credited performance, it is the harder version, and it is also the version that tells you the most about whether someone can actually do the job.
It is also, precisely, the route her father took. Nawazuddin Siddiqui trained at the National School of Drama and began with Delhi's Sakshi Theatre Group, working alongside Manoj Bajpai and Saurabh Shukla, years before Gangs of Wasseypur, The Lunchbox, Sacred Games or Manto. He has said repeatedly that theatre is where he learned discipline and the nerve to face an audience with nothing to hide behind. Putting his daughter's first performance on a stage rather than a set is a consistent position, not a coincidence.

What is not happening yet
No film debut has been announced, and per her father, none is imminent. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has said publicly that Shora will complete her studies before she enters the industry, which places any screen debut some years out.
That is the part worth holding on to, because the discourse around young performers from film families tends to run well ahead of the actual career. Shora Siddiqui has one credited public performance, in one production, at sixteen. That is a beginning, and the appropriate response to a beginning is patience rather than a verdict. AltBollywood will cover her work when there is work to cover.
