SHIFT 2026: Jaipur's Creative Festival Is Back This December and Here's Why It Belongs on Your Calendar
Jaipur has always been the city of postcards. The Pink City, the forts, the bazaars, the facades that every tourist has photographed a thousand times.

So when SHIFT announced its 2026 edition with the line "Jaipur, reimagined in SHIFT colours", it caught my attention. The idea is simple and quite lovely: take the gullies and facades everyone thinks they know, and show them from a different angle. In the festival's own words, familiar at heart, unexpected in expression.

What SHIFT has been about
To understand why people are excited, look at what SHIFT brought to Jaipur last year. The 2025 edition, also at the BM Birla Auditorium, was a proper buffet of creativity:
Hands-on workshops in hand-block printing, pottery and embroidery, alongside sessions in bachata, photography, sketching and poetry writing.
Comedy and music, with a ticketed preview featuring Anubhav Singh Bassi and singer-songwriter Justh.
An open mic for emerging local artists.
A folk-dance circle led by master Kalbeliya artists.
Talks on design, entrepreneurship, sustainability and women's stories on screen.
A curated market of indie and established labels selling clothes, footwear, jewellery, prints and zines.
What I love about that mix is how it refuses to choose between the traditional and the contemporary. Block printing sits next to bachata. Kalbeliya sits next to stand-up. That's Jaipur in a nutshell, and SHIFT seems to understand the city's personality better than most.
Why I think it's worth the trip
There's a quiet shift (sorry, I had to) happening in how Indian cities celebrate culture. The big ticketed concerts are wonderful, but some of the most interesting events right now are community-led, hands-on and rooted in place.
We saw the same energy when Merlin D'Souza took the stage at Jodhpur RIFF. Rajasthan has a way of making culture feel lived-in rather than performed. SHIFT looks set to bring that spirit to a younger, more experimental crowd.
If you're in Jaipur, this is an easy yes. If you're not, mid-December is honestly one of the best times to visit: pleasant days, crisp evenings and a city in full winter glow.
Who it's for
Makers who want to get their hands dirty with clay, dye or ink.
Music and comedy lovers looking for something more intimate than a stadium.
Shoppers who'd rather buy from an indie label than a mall.
Anyone new to Jaipur's creative scene who wants to meet the people building it.
Plan ahead
Keep an eye on SHIFT's Instagram for the line-up, workshop slots and ticket details. Last year, some sessions were ticketed separately, so book early for the ones you really want.
Wear comfortable shoes. Three days on the lawns adds up.
Carry some cash for the market stalls, just in case.
Jaipur, but make it new. I'm already looking forward to it.
