Raja Shivaji is racing to Rs 100 crore. It will get there. But the Week 2 numbers reveal a film that's outperforming in Maharashtra and underperforming everywhere else — and that gap matters more than the headline.

WHAT HAPPENED

Bollywood Hungama trade data shows Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji collected approximately Rs 27 crore in its second week, taking total domestic collections past Rs 75 crore. The film is now positioned to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in Week 3. Bollywood Hungama's headline frames this as 'all set to create Rs 100 crore' momentum.

INSIDER TAKE

Rs 27 crore in Week 2 is a hold of roughly 55-60% off Week 1 — which is genuinely strong for a regional-history drama. But strip out the Maharashtra share and the Hindi belt collections look more like a Rs 35-40 crore final, not a national breakout. This is a state-level event film masquerading as a pan-India hit because the headline is denominated in crores, not territory percentages. Tanhaji did the same thing. Tanhaji crossed Rs 200 crore. Raja Shivaji will not.

WHY IT MATTERS

If Raja Shivaji closes between Rs 90-100 crore, it confirms the regional-history genre has a hard ceiling without a marquee Hindi belt star (Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar). That's a problem for the half-dozen Maratha/Rajput biopics in the pipeline. Expect at least two of them to quietly recast for a Hindi belt name in the next 90 days.

WHAT FANS ARE MISSING

Look at the weekday-to-weekend ratio. If a film has near-flat weekday holds, it's playing to a committed regional audience that schedules around it. If it spikes 4x on weekend, it's casual Hindi belt walk-ins. Raja Shivaji is closer to flat — which is exactly why it'll cross Rs 100 cr and stop dead.

Q. Who stars in Raja Shivaji?Riteish Deshmukh leads the film in a historical drama directed for the Marathi-Hindi crossover market. The casting choice is precisely what defines the film's geographic ceiling.
