The Hundredth Car: What a Pop-Up Workshop at a Petrol Pump Proved in Goregaon

Watch the footage from the Quickstop at the Indian Oil fuel station in Goregaon and the thing that strikes you first is how little it looks like a workshop. A blue container unfolds into bays. A striped awning goes up. Scissor lifts, tool chests, an oil-lube station, hard hats hanging where you would expect to see a fuel nozzle. Cars go up on lifts in a forecourt where, twenty metres away, other people are simply filling their tanks and leaving.

It should look temporary. It does not. And it has now completed its hundredth service.

Why a hundred is the number that matters. Launch day proves nothing. Any new format gets a first week of curiosity, goodwill and friends of the business. A hundred completed jobs is a different claim entirely. It means the same model worked across a hundred different cars, a hundred different owners, a hundred different combinations of what was wrong and how much time somebody had. Formats that only work in a press release do not reach a hundred.

The problem this was built to solve. Shivam Autozone, in association with Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, launched Maruti Suzuki Quickstop at Indian Oil fuel stations on a single observation about this city: Mumbai will give three hours to the Western Express Highway without complaint and will not give a Sunday morning to a car service. The car needs an oil change, the brakes are squeaking, the AC is struggling. Everyone knows. Nobody goes.

The Quickstop answer is a 60-minute* express service that happens while you refuel. Engine oil change, oil filter, coolant checks, spark plug and CNG filter replacements, brake servicing, AC servicing, wheel balancing, tyre rotation, battery check-ups, a multi-point inspection and a dry wash. Not a replacement for an annual overhaul, and not meant to be. It is the ongoing maintenance everybody postpones, slotted into a gap in the day that already existed.

The engineering decision underneath it. Putting a workshop on a forecourt is not a matter of parking a van there. Everything in that footage, the lifts, the diagnostics, the tool storage, is designed to fold into a transportable unit and come back out as a functioning service bay. It is closer to touring stage production than to conventional dealership construction, and it means the capacity can be positioned where the demand is rather than where the real estate happened to be available.

The Part Worth Studying: How They Marketed It

Here is where this story stops being about cars.

Shivam Autozone had a genuinely useful innovation and a genuinely difficult explanation problem. “Express service at a fuel station” sounds either too good to be true or too small to matter, and a corporate walk-through video would have resolved neither. Most dealerships would have produced exactly that video.

They used Motu and Patlu instead. An AI-generated reel put the two cartoon characters in the driver’s and passenger’s seats at the Quickstop, explaining through their own banter how the service works and how quickly it happens. It appears in this footage exactly where a voiceover would normally take over, and the effect is completely different. Nobody skips Motu and Patlu. Families watch it together. Children explain car servicing to their parents, which is a sentence that should not make sense and does.

Why that choice was smarter than it looks. The hardest audience for any service message is not the person who does not understand it. It is the person who understands it perfectly and still does not act. Mumbai car owners know they are overdue. Explaining the technology again changes nothing. Changing the format, so the message arrives as entertainment rather than as a reminder, is the only thing that gets past that.

What It Means If You Live Nearby

If you are in Goregaon, Kandivali, Malad, Jogeshwari or the surrounding stretch, the practical translation is simple. The maintenance you have been postponing because it costs half a day now costs the length of a fuel stop. Oil change, brakes, AC, battery check, tyre rotation and wheel balancing, done while you wait.

It is also, as it happens, exactly the right month for it. Four months of monsoon driving have just finished and festive-season running is about to begin, which is the single worst combination of conditions a Mumbai car faces all year.
