August 7: The Page 3 Afterparty at Baamee

This is ours, so read the bias into it accordingly, but the reasoning behind it is not complicated. Mumbai has plenty of nights out and very few rooms where the people who actually make the city's pop culture end up in the same place at the same time. August 8: Papon Live in Concert at Shanmukhananda Hall

The night after, and about as tonally opposite as it gets. Papon plays Shanmukhananda Hall in Sion on Saturday, August 8, with a 7:30 pm start and a set running roughly two hours. Shanmukhananda is the important detail here. It is one of the last big Mumbai venues built for sound rather than for capacity, and a voice like Papon's in a room like that is a different experience from hearing him over a festival PA in an open ground with the wind taking half of it.

Expect the Assamese folk material sitting alongside the Bollywood work, which is the reason his live sets hold up better than most playback singers doing the circuit. August 14: Anubhav Bassi, Kisi Ko Batana Mat

Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, Friday August 14, tickets from ₹999. Bassi does long-form storytelling rather than punchline-dense joke writing, which means the room matters more than usual. Bal Gandharva is a theatre, not a comedy club with a two-drink minimum, and that suits the material. If you have only seen his clips on YouTube, the full-length version is a noticeably different shape.

August 22: Retro Rewind with Aditya Narayan

Phoenix Marketcity, Saturday August 22, from ₹699. The sell is sixties through nineties hits performed live, and at that price it is the most accessible ticket on this list by a distance. Aditya Narayan has been doing the retro circuit long enough to know exactly which songs a Mumbai crowd will sing back at him, which is really the entire point of a show like this. Go with a group or do not go at all.

August 26: Toxic releases in theatres

August 29: Lenny's Kids Concert Tour
