Ahead of Gudhal's continued run on streaming, AltBollywood sat down with writer-director Yuvraaj Parashar and lead actor Pooja Singh for an exclusive conversation about the film. Watch the full interview here.

A story Parashar had been carrying for a long time

Across the conversation, Parashar returns repeatedly to the idea that Gudhal was never meant to be a comfortable film. Having built his directing credentials with the internationally awarded short Bahaar, he describes Gudhal as the natural, if far more ambitious, extension of the same instinct: telling stories about the people society is quickest to look away from.

Pooja Singh on stepping into the film's emotional core

Singh speaks candidly about the responsibility of representing the film's younger, contemporary thread, the story of a middle-aged widow or mother navigating her own version of neglect alongside the film's elderly characters. She describes the process of finding restraint in the performance, resisting the urge to play grief loudly in a film that is built on quiet devastation.

On the cast and the tone on set

Both Parashar and Singh credit the ensemble, Mona Ambegaonkar, Shahbaz Khan, Sunita Rajwar and Sudha Chandran, for setting a tone on set that matched the material: serious, focused and unwilling to sensationalise the film's central subject.

What they hope audiences take away

The interview closes on a simple, direct note. Parashar hopes viewers walk away from Gudhal reconsidering how families talk about, and treat, the elderly people in their lives. Singh adds that if even one household has an honest conversation because of the film, it will have done its job.

Gudhal is streaming now on Hungama OTT, Airtel Xstream, Tata Play Binge and Watcho.
