Dune: Part Three's New Trailer Reveals Paul Atreides' Fall From Grace

Warner Bros. and Legendary released the second full trailer for Dune: Part Three on July 8, 2026, at a global IMAX fan event simulcast across eight cities. The footage shows Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides seventeen years into his reign as Emperor, torn between his wife Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, and his partner Chani, played by Zendaya, as a conspiracy forms against him from within his own sphere of influence.
The film is adapted from Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah, marking a deliberate tonal pivot for the trilogy that director Denis Villeneuve has been open about throughout press for the project. He has described the first film as contemplative, the second as a war movie, and this closing chapter as "more action-packed and tense" — and, in his own words, the most personal instalment of the three.
The new footage leans hard into that emotional register. Chani confronts Paul over a broken promise never to "take power in his name," while Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho, or a version of him rebuilt as the character Hayt, tells Paul directly that the Lisan al-Gaib has "destroyed thousands of worlds" and that he is "way beyond redemption." Florence Pugh's Irulan and Robert Pattinson's new villain Scytale are shown plotting a regime change that Irulan bluntly translates as an assassination attempt, while a brief glimpse of Anya Taylor-Joy's Alia Atreides, covered in blood, teases the seeds of her own transformation across the story.
The returning cast beyond Chalamet, Zendaya, Ferguson, and Bardem is deep enough to function as a genuine ensemble reunion: Rebecca Ferguson returns as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Charlotte Rampling reprises her role from the earlier films, while Isaach de Bankole joins as franchise newcomer Farok. Josh Brolin's involvement remains rumoured rather than confirmed. Momoa's casting as a new take on Duncan Idaho effectively resurrects a character killed in the first film through the Bene Tleilax's ghola cloning process — a plot device straight out of Herbert's source novel.
Beyond the plot mechanics, the release strategy is worth noting for anyone tracking the 2026 box office landscape: Dune: Part Three and Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday share the same December 18 release date. Exclusive Dune: Part Three footage is also being attached to IMAX 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, giving Warner Bros. an unusually aggressive cross-promotional push more than five months out from release.
Consistent with the rollout pattern of the first two films, Dune: Part Three is expected to receive a day-and-date global theatrical release, meaning audiences in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and India should be able to see it in cinemas on or around the same December 18 date.
Chalamet used the fan event's Q&A to reflect on the decade the trilogy has spanned, telling the audience he would advise his younger self simply to "savor it." Villeneuve, in the same session, joked that he'd tell his own past self to "sleep as much as you can," before calling the full trilogy "the privilege of my life."
