The Dhanush Om release date is officially set for October 16, 2026. Previously known as the tentatively titled D55 project, director Rajkumar Periasamy's highly anticipated two-part action thriller features a massive ensemble cast led by Dhanush, Malayalam superstar Mammootty, and Sai Pallavi.  

Dhanush's 55th film has been officially titled Om, with the first installment specifically named Om Chapter 1 Udhiram: The Blood Wood. The high-stakes action drama will hit theatres worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi on October 16, 2026. Following its theatrical run, expect the film to be streaming on JioHotstar in India, and internationally via the JioHotstar global app.  

The Revolution in The Blood Wood

Director Rajkumar Periasamy, fresh off the success of Amaran, has architected Om as a two-part narrative rooted in themes of wealth, power, and social revolution. The title teaser, officially released as the First Strike, unveils a rain-soaked jungle standoff where a group of villagers face heavily armed personnel. Dhanush emerges as the violent savior, wielding an assault rifle and engaging in brutal hand-to-hand combat to the chants of "Anna Malaiyarku!".  

The production is already advancing at a rapid pace. Periasamy recently confirmed that 60 to 65 percent of the principal photography is complete. The film is produced by Dhanush's own Wunderbar Films in association with Shraddha Agrawal's R Take Studios, aiming for a massive global footprint rather than a generic pan-Indian aesthetic.  

Mammootty's Return and The Core Cast

Securing the impressive Om movie cast that Dhanush shares the screen with required significant groundwork from the production team. It took director Rajkumar Periasamy seven months of persistence and a rigorous two-hour narration in Chennai to finally convince Mammootty to sign on. The Malayalam veteran plays a crucial character named Karthikeyan, marking his much-anticipated return to Tamil cinema after 2018's Peranbu.  

Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela also feature prominently as the lead actresses. The action choreography is handled by Yannick Ben, with Sai Abhyankkar delivering the intense musical score that drives the First Strike teaser.
