A Dream Realized: ‘Autobiography’ Brings Nuanced Theatre to Ahmedabad
It started with a simple wish. After witnessing a powerful performance of the play Autobiography at the NCPA in Mumbai in April 2025, a deeply moved theatre enthusiast penned a long Facebook post expressing a desire to bring the production to Ahmedabad. The post ended with a hopeful thought: “If I receive enough encouragement and support, I would love to bring it to Ahmedabad too.”

Today, that wish is becoming a reality. In a significant win for the city's cultural scene, Miraya Creations, in association with Natarani, is officially bringing Autobiography to Ahmedabad.
Theatre at its Finest
For those unfamiliar with the production, Autobiography represents the very best of contemporary Indian theatre. The play is written by the highly acclaimed Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar and is produced and directed by the renowned Lillete Dubey.
The narrative is a brilliant quartet drama that unfolds in complex layers, shifting backward and forward in time. It tells a taut, gripping, and occasionally humorous story, where characters share varying incidents and anecdotes from the past, leaving the audience constantly questioning where the absolute truth actually lies.
A Stellar Cast
The production is anchored by a formidable ensemble cast. Lillete Dubey not only directs but also stars in the play, bringing her signature commanding presence to the stage.
She is joined by the immensely talented Denzil Smith, whose performances consistently add depth and gravitas to any production. The core cast is rounded out by the versatile Suchitra Pillai and the promising Sarah Hashmi.
A Test for Ahmedabad's Theatre Scene
Bringing a production of this caliber to the city is more than just scheduling another event. For Miraya Creations, it represents a core part of their foundational vision: bridging the gap between meaningful, high-quality theatre and local audiences.
In that original April 2025 Facebook post, a crucial question was raised: Is Ahmedabad ready for such nuanced, non-mainstream theatre?
With the arrival of Autobiography, the stage is set for the city's arts community to answer that question with a resounding "Yes." For lovers of deeply engaging, thought-provoking storytelling, this is a theatrical event you simply cannot afford to miss.
