The Quiet Ascent of Ankit Raj Kashyap: Spotted by Hollywood Before Bollywood

In an entertainment industry fueled by insider access and overnight virality, Ankit Raj Kashyap is scripting a decidedly different narrative. Hailing from Jalandhar and raised in Delhi, the engineer-turned-entrepreneur-turned-actor has recently found himself in a rare position: catching the eye of Hollywood producers before making a mainstream Bollywood debut.
Through a blend of raw talent, business acumen, and a refusal to follow the traditional newcomer blueprint, Kashyap is proving that global recognition is no longer bound by geography—it is bound by authentic craft.

The Universal Studios Endorsement
The catalyst for this recent international spotlight was an audition tape that made its way to Mike Timm, Senior Creative Producer at Universal Studios. Timm had a screenplay titled Bobby Got a Gun, featuring a lead character explicitly written for a 50-year-old man. Timm challenged Kashyap to see if he could adapt the role to fit his actual age of 28.
Taking a week to deconstruct the script and reimagine the character's psychology, Kashyap delivered a taped performance that completely won the producer over. Timm publicly endorsed the young actor, praising his "easy screen presence" and officially recommending him to two other Hollywood producers.
For a rank outsider navigating the labyrinth of the film industry, it was a massive validation. "It was just one regular audition," Kashyap humbly noted in a recent interview. "But he was very kind to endorse me... I am thankful for that, but at the same time, I do not want to get it into my head. Complacency is where you are dead."
An Unlikely Origin Story
Kashyap’s journey to the screen is anything but traditional. The first engineer in a family with deep roots in the armed forces, he never felt entirely aligned with his academic path. Instead, his early twenties were defined by leadership and entrepreneurship. He represented India at international tech competitions and co-founded an angel-funded startup aimed at building a professional networking platform for the media industry.
When he eventually stepped away from that venture, Kashyap found himself experiencing a profound void—one he unexpectedly filled by watching cinema. What started as a coping mechanism quickly transformed into a calling. Driven by this newfound passion, he funded his own acting training, packed his life into two bags, and moved to Mumbai with a singular vision of making it as an actor.
Navigating Mumbai on His Own Terms
Arriving in Mumbai three years ago, Kashyap faced the quintessential outsider experience: the relentless grind of Aram Nagar casting offices, crowded open auditions with hundreds of hopefuls, and the mental exhaustion of seeking elusive breaks. Recognizing that this chaotic hustle was detracting from his actual art, he made a conscious pivot. He stopped chasing every open door and retreated to hone his acting, believing that if his craft was undeniable, the right rooms would eventually open to him.
He has also shown remarkable restraint in his career choices. Despite the financial allure and instant visibility of television, Kashyap has respectfully declined daily soap offers, choosing instead to align his trajectory strictly with web series and feature films. "I listen to everyone, but I do what my heart says," he explains, maintaining a strict focus on formats that can travel globally.
Blending Art and Entrepreneurship
Kashyap hasn't left his business background behind. Observing the structural loopholes and monopolistic tendencies within the Indian film industry, he partnered with veteran film distributor Rajesh Thadani to develop ShivSitij Films. The venture's long-term vision is to open professional venture capital channels for Indian cinema, bringing structured funding to the industry to empower better, more diverse storytelling.
The Road Ahead
Today, Kashyap approaches his career with a grounded discipline. A recent convert to vegetarianism, he begins his days with journaling, manifestation, and spiritual practices before diving into script reading and bodyweight training. He avoids the superficial industry circuits, preferring to cultivate a tight-knit inner circle and drawing inspiration from his ultimate idol, Shah Rukh Khan.
When asked where he sees himself in ten years, Kashyap’s answer is unapologetically ambitious, yet delivered with the quiet confidence of a man who knows his path: "I want to become one of the most successful and richest actors this world has ever seen."
If his self-made journey from a Delhi tech startup to the watchlists of Universal Studios producers is any indication, Ankit Raj Kashyap is a talent the global entertainment industry is right to keep its eyes on.
