Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Raashii Khanna Film :Release Date, Director, and What We Know

"Akshay Kumar wrapped his first Kerala schedule for an untitled Anees Bazmee directorial, confirming he's back in full production mode. The co-stars — Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna — make this the most intriguing ensemble he's assembled in years."

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Akshay Kumar shared photographs from Kerala confirming he has wrapped the first schedule of his upcoming untitled film directed by Anees Bazmee. The film stars Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna alongside Kumar. The shoot took place in Kerala. Anees Bazmee is the director behind the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise and the Welcome series — comedies with large ensemble casts and supernatural or misunderstanding-driven plots. No release date has been officially announced yet.

THE INSIDER TAKE

Akshay Kumar + Anees Bazmee is a reliable commercial formula. Their previous collaborations have consistently delivered mid-to-large scale comedy hits. What's new here is the female lead combination — Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna represent very different audience constituencies: Balan brings critical credibility and older demographics, Khanna brings South crossover appeal and younger digital audiences. That pairing is deliberately broad. Bhooth Bangla is currently in theatres doing solid numbers; this project, likely arriving in late 2026 or 2027, would be Akshay's follow-up to that. He's building a steady production cadence again after a rough 2023–2024.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Akshay Kumar re-establishing himself as a reliable commercial producer-actor after his box office struggles is one of 2026's more significant Bollywood storylines. Bhooth Bangla's Rs 149+ crore global performance is a data point. This new Bazmee film — if it carries forward that momentum — would confirm the commercial recovery is real, not a one-film fluke.

WHAT FANS ARE MISSING

The Kerala location choice for Bazmee, a director known for urban Hindi comedies, is unusual. It suggests the film may feature Kerala specifically as a plot or setting element — not just a shooting backdrop. Bazmee's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 used a haveli in Rajasthan to great thematic effect. A Bazmee film set in Kerala, with its distinct visual and cultural identity, could signal a significant genre or tonal shift.
